Spindle crash into piece

Good evening, shapeoko 5 pro everything has been going great been doing some small 3d carves and thought i would venture out and do a large piece for my pool deck well that’s when it went bad , did a roughing and looked like i was gonna have a cool piece started finish pass and spindle just plunged into piece started the chatter or grinding sound not sure what its called. Tryed to move it and same noise. Soft limit maybe was triggered ? Removed and reinstall cm surfaced a small piece to check it out appears it was fine, loaded a file tried to carve made about 4 pases and started chatter again on x axis what did i break ? Thanks

Soft limits are not used in CC or CM. If you made a file that tried to go a half a mile then CM would try to send the spindle a half mile. However it would hit the physical limits and grind. If you project fits inside the 4x4 or 2x4 limit it is not a limit problem. The only limitations are in jog and that is based on the machine configuration. CM will not allow you to jog past the parameters set during the configuration. You can pick the wrong machine and limit jogging in CM but would not stop a gcode/.c2d file from running until it hits the physical stops.

Please check all your nuts and bolts and the couplers at the ends of each ball screw. If any thing is loose it could cause your machine to bind up. Also check if your machine is square. That could also cause binding.
