Two questions regarding the spindle on button in Carbide Motion. I have a 1.5kW VFD spindle and everything works great. First question, the spindle on seems to run the spindle around 1250 RPM. I’ve read random things about low RPMs being bad for air cooled spindles, but is this true when there’s no load on the spindle? I get that the air flow is minimal, but when it’s not loaded and just sitting in place, does this affect anything. Which brings me to question two. The reason I ask is because I have my dust collection hooked up to the on relay of my VFD. And some point, I’ll also trigger it with my dust gates, but I don’t have the time to wire that up at the moment. So, I’m wondering if running the spindle on button while I use my dust collector for other tasks (table saw, sanding, etc.) is a bad idea? I mean, it’s kind of stupid to run my spindle just to turn on the dust collector, but it’s a temporary solution (and kind of handy if I want touchscreen control of it).
