Spindle with Adjustable Chuck?

Hello,

Speaking of spindles, has anyone found a spindle with an adjustable chuck for use on the Shapeoko? I’m finding the some bit sizes I need for drilling are not available in a 1/8" or 1/4" chuck, and the machine does not do a great job in consistently rounding the holes by doing a pocket cut with an undersized bit.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Tim

The machine should move and cut accurately to make a correct pocket — check things mechanically?

For other sizes of collet there are a couple of different sizes available from Elaire Corp.:

I don’t believe the chucks you are thinking of are suited to the speeds of a trim router.

Ah, makes sense with the speed issue. We have a Tormach in the maker space at my ‘real’ job, and it has the adjustable vacuum chuck, but that’s a machine on a completely different level. I’ll check out the collets at Elaire Corp. Thanks for the recommendation!

As will mentioned, the machine should still cut a reasonably good hole with a smaller tool.

You seemed to say on the other thread that your new Makita router is running smoother than currently-fried-like-burned-toast Compact Router ran.

Maybe see what happens cutting a hole with your new router in case you had a wobbly router before?
