Square work piece

What is the best way to square your material on a S5P 4x4.
The job cuts correctly, HOWEVER, it’s like the board I’m cutting is not square(which it is).
Example:
On a 10 x 24 board, if I’m cutting a border line 1” around the inside.
On the left corner it would be 1”, but on the right corner it may be 7/16.
I used an adjustable square to get the board about 4” from front of CNC on both corners and clamped it down there. I also zeroed off of the center.
What am I doing wrong or not doing?

I usually square my stock to the aluminum t-tracks. That has been successful but I spent a lot of time fussing over squaring the machine when I assembled it. You could check for square once your work is clamped by jogging a v-bit or some other small bit from one corner to another. Along one axis. That could help identify if there is some mechanical interference or something throwing things off.

I had made a wooden fence at the front of the machine and created an edge parallel to the path of travel but trim the edge with the cnc after its mounted. One thing I did was to flip it over and cut a small recess along the edge so sawdust wouldn’t affect my positioning (cut that first, then mount, and then cut alignment edge). I would then have one endstop for the positioning in the other axis (so a misalignment wouldn’t skew things).

The fence I had, I made a bit fancy with a scale vcarved in it so I can check dimensions, and some threaded inserts for additional holding options,

If the material is already cut to final dimensions, I always go by center of stock rather than the sides for X/Y. And I find the center of the material across the diagonals, not by center points on the sides. That assures I am in fact centered to the material. I use a sharp v-bit in the spindle to line up the spindle to the material easier.

I ended up “drawing” a line across my spoil boards with a 1/8" endmill along the x axis and squaring off of that.

Actually, once I installed the serrated crush-it stops along the front of the CNC (5 Pro 4x2), I left them there so there is a permanent square front edge. I also leave a stop on the left side so my x/y zero is constant.

I was doing that at first as well, but apparently one of my tracks is off and I had to redo an entire carve because of it.
