Step skipping issue?

I have 4 toolpaths I’m trying to run for a project. The first two were V carve paths and worked fine. The last two I’m having problems with. Every time I load them after installing the bit and zeroing out this is what happens (see attached). Its hard to see in the video but before the spindle travels back to 0,0,0 to begin the routine it stops for a moment and then maxes out at the Z axis briefly stuttering at the top of travel and then proceeds to 0 0,0. These last two paths are a drilling path and final profile cutout path. I tried rerunning one of the previous V carve paths and no issues. I’ve never experienced this before. Thoughts?

I forgot to add that when the drilling path begins, the spindle starts drilling (I’m using the peck option) and it just drilling deeper than it’s supposed to. I have a longer 1.5 inch length bit in the collet and it almost gets buried up to the collet before I hit the eStop.

What is your Retract Height set to?

250 TEST_1-Drill 1.gcode (5.8 KB)
250 TEST_2-Profile 1.gcode (14.4 KB)

Retract height is 0.25

You seem to have a datum set or some such thing which is causing it to want to lift to 2.01 inches above where zero is set:

Well, the Z gap says it’s 2.01. Should this be zero? I didn’t touch that setting.

That’s telling the system how high to raise above the material at the start and end of the job.

It doesn’t need to be that high.

Interestingly, the reference to Carbide3D in the image takes you to this tread in this forum.

In looking at past jobs most of them are set to 0.8. But for some reason this job is set to 2.01. If I lower it will that solve my issue?

Yep. That setting did the trick. I changed it to 0.8 and it works fine now. I never mess with that setting so I’m not sure what happened.
