Stepping after surfacing

I did a surfacing run for the first time on my 4 Xxl. I got a series of very small steps moving upward on the y axis as it approaches the front of the machine. The steps are consistent and measure about .3mm. My measuring may be off, it is a hard thing to measure accurately. My read on it is that my y axis slopes up toward the front of the machine. Any advice on what the problem is and how to fix it?

As I think about it a bit more it could be that the router is not square in the y direction. That could make each pass cut a bit deeper forward than it does at the back of the bit.

I’m going to guess you’re bit isn’t perfect?

You’ve likely diagnosed the issue. Getting the spindle square to the bed is called “tramming”, search the forum for “tram” or “tramming” and you’ll find several posts on how to do this.
