So I just cut my first job out on my shapeoko. But it cut way past the .75 pine board I had on the waste board how can I change it to not go through that far
We’ll need way more information. What kind of machine and Z axis do you have? What design software are you using? If it’s CC, post the C2D file so we can look at it.
Have you verified that the Z Zero you set on the machine matches what is in the design file?
Make sure you measure the stock accurately. A 3/4" board is seldom .75". Be sure you are setting zero on top of stock with BitZero or paper method.
Personally I use bottom of stock about 90% of the time and do not cut through to my spoilboard. I use BitZero on the spoilboard and that works for me. I do get through the stock consistently bit not into my spoilboard.
I have one bit that comes loose regularly but I pause and tighten it. Sometimes it comes loose and sometimes not. Clean your collet with brake cleaner and spray brake cleaner on cotton swab and clean router shaft inside. The collet and nut should be clean and no lubrication at all.
Likely it is your setting zero and accurate stock measurement.
I also do what Guy says. Works for me. Always pick stock bottom when using contour if you want to go through your stock. I add 1 to .76. If it does go through it’s not much. If you don’t want to gouge the spoilboard you can cut it off with a saw then run a trim router bit on it.
