Supported file types - Shapeoko 3

Hey everyone!

I have been scouring the interwebs for this answer and I am at my wits end.

Will a Shapeoko run a 3d file in the form of an STL or 3Dclip file? If not, is there anything special I will have to do to convert it to Gcode for my machine?

We have a wiki which documents the machine(s) more or less: http://www.shapeoko.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

The main page has a link to a page which discusses file formats: http://www.shapeoko.com/wiki/index.php/File_formats (EDIT: and AFAICT, it’s the top search result for “supported file types shapeoko 3” on Google and Bing and DuckDuckGo and AOL)

Probably you’ll want to look at:

EDIT: If any terminology is new / confusing, please consult the glossary: http://www.shapeoko.com/wiki/index.php/Glossary

In particular, you’ll need to select some suitable Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) app. List of the opensource/free options here: http://www.shapeoko.com/wiki/index.php/CAM — commercial ones at: http://www.shapeoko.com/wiki/index.php/Commercial_Software — MeshCAM is written by one of the Carbide3D partners, and is bundled w/ the Nomad which uses the same controller, so is an obvious choice.

EDIT: If you can recall your search history / thoughts, please let us know. We’d like to improve how the wiki is organized / discoverable.
