SVG Files HELP!

I am new to this. I imported a SVG file. It looked great on the simulation. Ran it several times, checked my settings and all looked good. Used Carbide Motion to attempt to v-carve on a bamboo cutting board. Started off great. About 3/4 of the way through the project, the drawing had big mistakes….art work was off….it almost looked like the board moved but I know it didn’t. What would cause the carve to have mistakes if the file was an SVG and the simulation was perfect? Thanks for any help or suggestions.

This would usually indicate a mechanical problem. For example, if the the gantry (including the dust collection!) hits anything, then you may ‘skip steps’ - a movement is commanded, but is unable to execute. After that, everything is shifted by the amount of the lost steps.

It could also indicate an electrical problem (if signals to the motor are lost, lost steps), or a maintenance problem - belt drive machines can develop loose pulleys, or stretched belts. Any machine could have lubrication issues.

If the machine hasn’t been powered down, you can try moving the the current X-Y zero point, and see if it’s off by the same amount.

Many potential causes:

  • something interfered with gantry movement
  • bit came loose
  • too aggressive of a feed rate
  • too aggressive depth of cut
  • incorrect bit in router
  • motor(s) skipped steps
  • bit defined incorrectly
  • inaccurate zero setting
  • mechanical component failure
  • electrical component failure
  • etc

Without access to the svg/c2d file/pictures of the machine/pictures of the cutting board, my first poor guess is that something interfered with gantry movement (like a clamp).
