SVG not opening in CC

I use Silhouette Business to create SVGs for the Glowforge. I created an SVG that I would like to cut with my Shapeoko, however, when I try to open the file up in CC, it comes in as a blank (the preview when opening the file shows the outline of the design). I am not able to use Inkscape on my computer. Any ideas how to get the SVG to appear?

Thanks!

Please post the file here or send it in to support@carbide3d.com

Things which Carbide Create doesn’t support:

  • clones
  • object arrays
  • pixel images and effects
  • text

and any such features will need to be converted into geometry.

One thing that I always do with “weird” SVGs:
load in inkscape, and then in the paths menu “Convert objects to paths”
and then save it

that tends to make Carbide Create load it almost always

(there’s a funk cornercase where CC does not close geometry where AI and Inkscape do… but thats fixable within CC itself)

Unfortunately @milosmillworks can’t use Inkscape on his computer.

@milosmillworks — have you looked into some other vector editor such as Serif’s Affinity Designer?

I use Silhouette Business for vectors

The problem here is the graphic is composed of clones of objects:

I was able to fix this so it would import by opening it in Serif’s Affinity Designer and then exporting it:

You may be able to address this in the program you are using by exporting the SVG in such a way that it doesn’t use clone objects.

As @WillAdams mentions, Affinity Designer is inexpensive and excellent for creating your SVG’s. It’s my default graphics app.

Thank you for your help! What exactly are clones and how can they be avoided so I don’t have to add extra steps?

Clones are an SVG feature — you need to see if the software you are using affords an option to not use them.
