SVG wrapped around a sphere

Is there a good way to take an svg and wrap it around a sphere, essentially making a 3d shape from it? I am a total noob to 3d stuff!!

Thanks,
Mark

In CC pro, you can subtract (or add) the design from/to another underlying shape (your sphere).
It will project it straight down rather than wrap it. If it’s not too far off center it looks fine.

To do an actual ‘wrap’ you will need a more robust software capable of wrapping geometry. Then output that solid to a STL to cut in CC or in another CAM software.

Do you have an example of what you want to do?

Thanks for the reply Tod!,
All stuff I need to learn for sure. Attached is the image I would like to add, basically a moonscape crescent. I am envisioning a sphere that starts higher at the bottom of the picture and fades away towards the top.

This sort of thing was recently discussed on the OpenSCAD mailing list — but for that design, why not get a 3D model of the moon and section it?

Hi William,
Great question!. I am sure I can find some free 3d graphics for this sort of thing. I need to practice!

Thanks,
Mark

Also, I certain I would have a really hard time making this image work with the color pallete, with the black area having to be on the same level.

Thanks,
Mark
