Tool Change Question for Shapeoko 5 Pro

Good day All,

I have the Shapeoko 5 Pro, and I have finally gotten my first couple jobs under my belt, but I am having trouble with tool changes.

When I load everything into carbide create, I create separate tool paths, but when it comes time to change tools, the spindle simply moves up the z axis a couple inches, then sits there in the spot that it completed the tool path with the spindle/bit spinning at full speed!

I’m pretty quick at tool changes, but not that quick! Lol…

Dumb question, How do I get the spindle to stop so I can change out the bit without starting the job over every time I need to change the tool? I’m sure it’s something I’m leaving out, or doing wrong. Any help is much appreciated!

The 5 comes with a BitSetter, correct? Make sure that the BitSetter in enabled in Carbide Motion.

When you enable or disable the BitSetter, quit CM and restart it.

Which post-processor do you have selected in Carbide Create under Edit | Select Post-processor?

Please try “Carbide 3D Shapeoko”

Hello, Not trying to steal this thread at all.

I’m having a similar problem with tool changes today. I am running CC and CM and have a couple of simple successful jobs under my belt now using a single tool path. BUT I tried a job today with two tool paths which had a simple tool change, and it just went right on into cutting the second tool path without stopping or asking for a tool change at all. When I set the job up in CC I set up separate tool paths using a different bit for each of the tool paths.

Any help with this will greatly be appreciated.

Do you have the bitsetter and have it enabled in CM?

Yes, also using Bit Zero

I think I may have found my problem. Just checked the post processor and mine was set to basic g code instead of Carbide D Shapeoko.

I use the on and off switch on my Router.
