Tool Crashing into Bitsetter

Hoping someone can help here. When change my endmills either during or at the beginning of a job, the mill is either not aligning with the bitsetter or the z is crashing into it like it wants to go further down. All bring up an error message. I’ve tried re-setting up the machine and reconfiguring the bitsetter position a couple of time, and have reinitialized several times. The red light does turn on when i press the bitsetter button.

Thoughts?

First, when you configured the machine:

Did you choose the correct machine type/size configuration?

Upload a photo of your machine and screengrabs showing the settings you are making?

Second, are you certain that when the machine is cutting/working it isn’t losing steps somewhere?

Yes, all settings are correct. I’m not sure what you mean by losing steps?

Also, at the end of a job the z is not going up to clear the stock, so it’s ripping into the workpiece. Something is off with the z.

Did you plug it into the right connector?

Yes. Everything was fine until today.

Is your bit secured in the collet or is it sliding up?

Totally secure. I have a relatively new BitZero and am using the probing pin. Should I just be probing with the first tool in the job?

Power up, connect, go to Settings | Debug — are any switches stuck on?

Test each switch by presenting metal/pushing the button/touching ground-lead to probe body — does each signal as the correct input?

When you start the job it’ll ask for the first tool and probe again anyways so that shouldn’t matter. Is this happening when you’re trying to set the z zero?

Sometimes. It’s just very inconsistent.

Is your router low enough in the clamp for it to touch the bitsetter? Before probing jog to the table and jog z down as far as you can and see how high up the collet is from the table. If it’s really high up this might cause your issue and explain why it works sometimes. If your tool stick out is really long then it’ll reach but if it’s not then the machine will keep trying to go past it’s limit during the probing.
