Toolpath changes mid operation- Pro5

My Pro 5 (v622) will occasionally, mid operation, with code files I’ve used previously, move a path over from a 1/4" to several inches, as it’s working a down a contour.

I use lower than listed speeds and feeds to reduce splintering on the 3/4" ply I’m using. (recycled EU shipping crates) So I’m definitely not doing anything to make it miss steps.

I’m having to turn the machine off and reset it every file. Forgot today…

I did install v640, is that the solution? Don’t need to waste any more plywood.

The SO5 is a strong machine. Have you lubricated your bearings lately. The linear bearings can become dry and cause the machine to drag and loose steps. Cutting plywood should not really be a challenge for an SO5 so it is likely something mechanical causing your problems. However if you are cutting things make a small offset and cut as a pocket if possible. Engaging a flat end mill in a groove the same width as the bit is harder than making a slightly wider groove for the end mill to cut.The slightly wider groove gives a place for chips to go and both sides of the bit are not engaged all the way to the bottom. The first pass the bit is fully engaged on both sides of the groove but a second pass a little wider helps as you go down into the groove.

Oil your linear bearings because you want the machine to glide smoothly. You use Mobil Vactra #2 oil for the bearings. I think C3D sells some but I bought a quart on ebay which is likely a lifetime supply.
