can you run the cnc with the old touch probe on cm 542? after you initialize the machine it comes to front center to change the bit then it travles to the left front and sets on the touch probe for Z only. It will not set X or Y. What am I doing wrong?
Yes, one can use either the BitZero v1 or v2 — there’s a preference for setting which is used in Options.

Not only will CM 542 work with the touch probe from Carbide3d but it will also work with 3rd party probes. I use one of from Dog River Tools. Just select the version 1 when entering the preferences.

bill, the cnc acts like I have the bit setter installed. whats going on? Do i have to buy the bit setter now?

Please verify you have the bitsetter disabled in settings.
Start Carbide Motion
Power on the CNC
Click Connect to Machine
DO NOT Initialize
From the Carbide Motion screen click ‘settings’
Verify that the bitsetter selection box is NOT checked.
You do not have to have a bitsetter.
