I purchased the SO3 XXL, built an enclosure, and constructed the machine inside. I’ve followed all guides provided by Carbide 3D to get this thing running. I’m currently on “Enable Homing in Carbide Motion”
I’m on Mac running Carbide 4.0.428 and GRBL v1.1. I’ve gone through setup Shapeoko, selected xxl, and sent configured data. The next step in the instructions shows the data log updating, and then selecting “Jog” to let the machine begin the process.
The issue I’m having is, I don’t see an option to click “Jog” anywhere on my Carbide Motion program.
I do have an option to “Run” and then “Initialize Machine”. When I try this the machine moves to the back right of the machines and starts vibrating loudly in the corner. It appears like it wants to go further?
Hi Joshua,
Welcome!
It sounds like you have an issue with either your X or Y homing switch. Can you verify that the machine actually makes contact? And can you check that the LED on the board lights up when you press the switch?
oh if you get the back + vibrate, there is something wrong with your limit switches. Will has a standard “check this” list for that case…
but before you even go there, can you check (with the power off) that the limit switches actually engage to the machine when you manually move the X gantry to the back, and when you move the Z thing to the right?
With my machine I had to wiggle the belt tightening thingy a bit since they got in the way
Please check that the switches are plugged in correctly, and work properly — when the machine powers up the homing indicator lights should flicker on/off, then once the controller is booted up you can test the switches by pressing them — the matching light should light while the switch is pressed (closed), and should go off when the switch is released (open).
Please make sure that the machine can mechanically close the appropriate homing switch on an axis before reaching the limit of travel along that axis — if it can’t, it should be possible to adjust a problematic switch’s placement by loosening the hardware in question, pulling it into a better alignment and then tightening it. The machine being out of square can also affect this, squaring up the machine, or more expediently, securing a small block or plate for the homing switches to contact may be necessary.
Thanks for the quick response! @fenrus, @neilferreri, and Will the 3 of you have helped me troubleshoot this. I knew it’d be something silly. The X-axis limit switch was getting caught by the wire track and not allowing it to make contact.
I’ve not only fixed that, but ran the initial Shapeoko sharpie file! Thanks again for y’alls help. Now onto learning how to design my own files!
