Two weeks ago I broke the original Z belt, ordered two more from the link below, and both have broken in one day.
Any other UK suppliers?
Are these bad belts? Why would they break? I think I am installing them correctly. Shall I share a Fusion file to check if the Fusion setting are causing the break?
The last belt to break was air cutting when it snapped. It retracted on the z axis and snapped, maybe it retracted too fast?
I’m cutting Renshape type (PU foam) material, it does produce dust, which was getting onto the Z belt could that cause damage?
any chance we could get a few pictures of your z axis pulley and assembly? Sounds like the belt may be catching or rubbing somewhere and coupled with being super tight causes it to snap. maybe? Could be as simple as a bad belt. I have been through my fair share of those.
Gates-branded GT2 belts cost quite a bit more when purchased from specialty vendors such as SDP/SI or BB Man. — I’d like to think that that translates into a qualitative difference (or maybe I’m justifying what I spent on belts when I upgraded to 9mm).
I would post that file up for the fusion guru’s around here to look at. Unfortunately, I can’t help you there. I can share one experience I had with a bad roll of belting from amazon, though. 2 sets of belts in 2 days, ended up throwing out the rest of the roll and buying from another seller in hopes that it wasn’t the same exact manufacturer. New ones came and all was well. My vote is for a bad batch of belts.
Those adjustment screws give a lot of mechanical advantage. My original Z didn’t have that, I had to lift the Z motor to tension the belt. I would essentially lift the machine by the Z motor, but I know I could get it tighter with one of those screws.
My guess is you’re going a little too tight. They should still feel like belts. The belt will not slip off the pulley…ease up some.
