Usually this is an indication of variations in your stock thickness or your wasteboard “flatness”. Basically, a piece of wood is rarely flat and a consistent distance from your endmill. For any precision v-carving, I recommend facing the stock with your machine first.
If that’s not it, you may have lost a step or two with all of the Z moves. Make sure your Z belt is really tight.

Thanks for the feedback. Im gonna have to try resurfacing my waste board… Which is process in its self as it seems me Z Travel isnt long enough! I have the Z plus drive so no belts to tighten! LOL

while a nice flat wasteboard is great…

the problem is more likely with the top of your wood, not at the bottom of it…

Surfacing the workpiece is probably the best way to do it.
I know it doesn’t help if you’ve already painted/stained, but if you can do it before that step and place it back in the same spot, you should be good.

Do you have an extra wasteboard on there? The Z Plus requires the extra WB for proper reach.

I dont, but I will after this. Crazy that I have to lift my work 1" up…

Not so “crazy” when you consider that the Shapeoko chassis was designed for a standard router mounting, and now they’ve engineered a totally different router mounting with improvements to the standard one.

Something had to be adjusted.

However, did everyone know about that adjustment early on? :smirk:

Yeah it’s a shame, but in all reality it’s actually a lot better IMHO. I have an XXL and I just did a wasteboard that’s 24”x32” because I don’t make anything bigger than that. Helps protect the initial wasteboard too.
