Hi everyone, I’m working on making a trunk for a pastor that is retiring. I’m looking to engrave the front and sides using my Shapeoko 3. I had ChatGPT help me make a design I like but I can’t seem to get it to translate so I can use Carbide Create. I’m using black walnut so I feel the paths should be well defined against the dark wood. I’m open to suggestions.

Thanks for the reply. I did a little better on my second draft but I want to make sure the the carving stands out on the black walnut. I just am not sure that the path and cross will stand out enough.

That’s more of a design issue I believe. The AI created image is probably close to what you can expect depending on the light, etc. One thought that came to mind was having the path to the hill start on one side and the cross being on the other. Push the design down so the path doesn’t climb as dramatically and enlarge the cross. If this doesn’t make sense then I can ask Grok to make one real quick to give you an idea.
Can you have the AI generate the same image on a white background instead of wood grain?
I think the areas behind the text would be white, the road would be black, and the hill & road shoulders would keep the same texture somewhere in between.
You can then import the white to black image as a height map in 3D
It looks like you only need to cut the transition areas using 3D. The rest, the top of the road, and the recessed areas where the text is, and the text, can be cut with 2D.
I would probably make the images on 4 flat sides without the raised corners and add those myself with flat 3D elements.

I’m still learning AI and its sometimes a pain as its not as intuitive as I hoped. I did go the route to asking for the clear background and have it simplify the design to optimize for Vcarve using a 90º v bit, that helped but there were still a lot of stray vectors that i needed to clean up by hand. I’m going to run a test on some scrap to see if the latest design is going to work. Thank you for your suggestions

You might try asking AI to make the drawing in wire frame png. That is what I do. I then either trace it or use a program to convert to svg.
