Using the drilling option in tool path

I need to drill 1/8 in diameter holes in 3/4 in stock full depth but the bit burns the wood. Should I be using high or low speeds to correct the problem or should I be using a regular 1/8 in drill bit rather than a router bit

Only use a drill bit if you can find one rated to be spun at the RPMs you will be using — may want to look into specialty drill mills.

Check your feeds and speeds and adjust using a test cut.

That said, the best option is probably to source a 3mm tool and machine as a pocket

Should I be using a higher speed . I used the slowest setting on the first attempt

This may not be applicable to what you are doing. To ‘drill’ through 3/4 inch cedar (very soft wood), I used a pocket with a 1/8 upcut bit to ‘drill’ an oversized hole with a radius of 0.164 inch. I wanted a 1/8 inch hole but these were for screws, so I just went with a larger hole and larger screw so I could use the 1/8 inch bit. Depth per pass: 0.125 inch. Plunge rate: 18 in/min. Feed rate:60 in/min. RPM: 18000.

Higher RPMs will burn more.

According to google, hand drills spin at 2000-3000 rpm, well below the operating range of a router. Implying, if you could chuck in a drill bit and spin at 2500 rpm, a plunge is all it would take to get an unburned 1/8 diameter hole. But the router is not a drill…
