V Carve Empty Toolpath

Hello everyone, first timer here.
Im messing around with Carbide Create to see how things work before I do the project.

V carve tool path is super random and I can sometimes get it to work and other not.

Meaning- I can add a text, add a v carve tool path to it and itll give me the empty tool path error. then I delete and retry like several times, without changing any settings and then it would work and then not…

IDK if anyone can take a look and see what is wrong or not… online it looks like when others do it so easily and quality and I follow exactly what they do.

Id give more info if I knew what to say…

thank you!!

EDIT: I tried adding another “HELLO” all caps, the exact same thing and it wouldn’t create the tool path like the one above that worked…

V carve Tests.c2d (112 KB)

How is the “90 Degree Carve” tool defined?

If changed to a #301 90 degree V tool:

by re-creating the toolpath, enabling pocket clearing, setting that to a #301

then unchecking it:

The toolpath works as expected:

ohhh shoot you know exactly whats going on!!

so basically I was trying to make a cut that wasn’t possible and I needed to remove extra material first (pocket cutting) so that the v carve can then go and cut the rest, right?

Not quite.

For the current version, the V carving toolpath requires that some tool which it deems appropriate is selected for the pocket clearing toolpath, even when it is not enabled.

ah ok , I see. i’ve been messing around with what you said and it works great. even with the tool that I added.

btw, since I got ya here, is it cool to start threads like with issues I’m facing? or is it looked down upon?

Discussing stuff is why this place exists.
