Ok…So Imagine you make a catch all out of a 1 inch thick piece of wood and you contour a pocket about 3/4s down into the wood. NOW…you want to vcarve a nice little phrase down in the center of that pocket…When I go do select my 20 degree v bit to do this detailed carve, come back to the simulation, I see my pocket, but I’m not seeing even an “attempt” at my V carved Phrase. Any clue on what I’ve done wrong? I’m quite sure it’s user error lol
1/4" 20 d V bit, depth per pass: .0625 spindle: 18000 fr: 50.000 pr: 10.000
Last time I checked one could not set a “start depth” for vcarve ops in CC, so as @nlichtenberg said CC will generate a vcarve toolpath that starts from stock top, which is not what you want. I think the easy workaround is to save the vcarve toolpath to a separate file (which you have to do anyway when you don’t use a BitSetter), do your pocketing cut normally, but then right before running the vcarve file, reset your Z zero to the bottom of the pocket. Use a retract height larger than the pocket depth to avoid any risk of collision.
AWESOMENESS! I’m going to try that out today. What I ended up doing was just using a 16th endmill, not as pretty as the v bit would have been, but it works, I think the person who it’s intended for will like it.
