V-Carve tool change question

If I want to do multiple V-Carve sequential jobs, I have been running one, then running the next after re-zeroing the Z axis because the new job starts with a flat endmill and the last job ended with a Vee bit. Is there some clever way to not have to re-zero before starting subsequent jobs?

If your work piece thickness is the same from job to job and you have a Bit Setter, you wouldn’t need to reset Z zero.

The shapeoko.json file remembers the last zeros you set for X Y and Z. I use bottom of material so the Z is remembered. In the job setup you have to measure your stock accurately and when starting a new job the X Y and Z are remembered. That is if you BitSetter you dont have to reset any zeros except maybe X and Y if the stock is different sizes and you are not using lower left corner. I have an L bracket I use to set my stock on the spoilboard. So if you can put your lower left corner in the same place and use bottom of stock you dont need to set zeros with a new job. As long as you set the stock thickness accurately for the new job. If you use center and the new job has different stock width and length then you need to set X and Y zero over but Z is still set to bottom of material (spoilboard).

Re-arrange the toolpaths so what tool one file ends with, the next begins with.

Ed, I do because I have to remove the Vee bit and insert the flat bottom bit before starting the job again.

Okay, perhaps I will add a do nothing (or very little) with the flat bottom bit as the last toolpath which forces a tool change and associated bit zeroing.

OK. Apparently I misunderstood your question. You must have a large enough work piece clamped down to the spoil board to accommodate more than one job.
