In this video I’ve spotted what appears to check all my boxes to manage the vacuum hose:
Specifically I am trying to make the first collection roll around with the whole rig on the shop so I don’t want to bungie to the ceiling… So it looks like in the video there is a flexible rod tied to the hose going to the back corner, any guidance on materials that have the right stiffness to keep the hose up but not be too rigid? I took a long walk around my local Lowes and came up empty handed.
Not a solution (well maybe) but I was doing some cleaning up around the compound the other day and found some old 70’s vintage fishing rods. One of them screwed into the handle using a hand tightenable nut so I saved that one with it’s handle to potentially be a flexible support for something in the future (I figured I’d machine up the matching threads using the existing threads as a sample).
I already shared my vacuum hose support (bungee-based) but something like a fiberglass rod might be a basis for a different. My first thought about this setup is that looks a lot like a typical fiberglass rod used for things like driveway reflectors (the kind you pound into the ground at the end of you driveway). If you go with one-piece fishing rod, you’ve got a range of stiffnesses to choose from depending on where you cut the rod. A piece of heatshrink tubing at each end finishes the raw cut end off nicely.
Make a block to hold the “base” end and Bob’s yer Uncle (or third cousin).
When I saw that I also thought of a fishing rod zip tied to the hose.
Also, multiple 1/8" fiberglass rods might also work, and allow you to adjust the rigidity / flexibility of the support by cutting them at different lengths so the bundle will be more rigid at the base and taper off as you get closer to the spindle.
