Vcarve craziness

I am attempting to cut vcarve stars 90 degree bit, the material thickness is 1.475 and setting depth at .25” and it is going very deep…
I ran it on a bird that has thickness of .745, 90 degree, . 25 and it comes out perfect…
Am I missing something? Why would it cut perfect on the thinner material and the gouge the thicker?

Are you losing steps on the Z-axis?

Check the machine mechanically.

If everything checks out mechanically let us know what you’ve reviewed and send the .c2d file in to support@carbide3d.com and we’ll do our best to assist.

When you do a simple vcarve and not setting bottom of material “t” you can have unintended consequences. A simple vcarve tries to cut down the middle of the lines and touch both sides of the lines. If you limit the cutting depth you can have distorted images. Try using an advanced vcarve even if the end mill is not called for. The advanced vcarve goes around the outside of the image instead of down the middle. In advanced vcarve you can limit the depth of cut and still get a star. A simple vcarve with a depth limit is not recommended. Although doing a simple vcarve with the “t” can cut deeper than you want. Give the advanced vcarve a try on some scrap and your simple vcarve with a depth limit and see if you find a difference.
