Did this a while ago and got a bunch of help here along the way, Thought I should post the outcome. I’m hoping the cherry will eventually darken up enough to improve the contrast with the vines. If I do a lot of this I think I’m going to need to look into pressure/vacuum dyeing of wood to get access to a wider color palette.

I’ve seen other organs associated with your name. Do you have some kind of write-up on this organ? I’d like to see the details. I’m curious!

Most of my work is on restoring antique instruments, the big Gavioli described in the article is still the biggest and best.
The pictured organ here is a the first full organ I’ve built completely from scratch; it has been quite the learning experience. It has four registers (stops) and a total of 121 wooden pipes. Plans were obtained from a crazy engineer from Germany who created 140 pages of detailed CAD drawings from an existing organ. With a couple colleagues we’re actually making six of them (if it’s worth doing it’s worth overdoing?). I’ll be giving a talk on making them at the Automatic Musical Instrument Collector’s Association meeting at the end of August and intend to use the talk as the basis of an article for one of collector magazines. So yes, there should be an article, but it doesn’t exist yet.

I’m just beginning to integrate the CNC into my work on these instruments and enjoying the new challenges. The originals were all built using mostly hand tools long before CNC existed.
