So I want to cut a checkered pattern with a 60° vee bit. It will be a shallow checkered pattern on a piece of wood. Everytime I set it up the simulation is wrong. I tried it first in V carve but didnt see a place to set the depth of cut. So I went into contour selected the 60° vee bit, no offset and how deep I wanted it cut and it shows it cutting basically a pocket. Frustrating! 15936625762013391791548025229555|500x500
Hi @Bmart,
V-carve toolpath are intended to be used to cut “between lines”, which is why you don’t get to set a depth, because the toolpath works out the depth based on how far apart the lines are. But in your case, as you realized, you don’t really want a v-carve toolpath, you want to run a V-bit along a set of lines, so selecting a contour toolpath is the right approach. However, CC preview does not support V-bits for contour toolpaths, so it previews as if you had selected a square endmill, hence the “pocket” look. But the generated G-code is actually still ok, only the preview is off in that corner case.
Go ahead and run it!
Thank you very much Julien.
