I have been loving my Shapeoko pro xxl. Have cut my things including body parts for my old Ford woody I am restoring. I was looking for advise on cutting .125 flat steel. Does any one have suggestions as to bits, speeds etc.
You will want to stick with small endmills in order to keep the surface speed down because the router/spindles we use have pretty high minimum speeds. I would also recommend some sort of air blast to clear chips so you don’t break the small tools. You will also need to use more advanced material entry strategies like ramping or helix entry. Are you using Carbide Create or something more advanced? You can cut steel on a shapeoko but it won’t be fast. Other people will have to give you more specific recommendations. I have not tried cutting steel yet, I mostly work in aluminum.
