Waste board surfacing

Still kinda new to the CNC world, but I’m getting there. I have the Shapeoko 5 Pro, the original. I need to surface the waste board, what are the dimensions I need to put in my design/Toolpaths, and do I need to remove the bit setter after the machine sets the bit, but before I start the run?

I do move the z axis bit setter out of the way.
What size table do you have ?

I have the 2x2. It soecs says there’s 23.75 x 23.75 actual working space. When i measured, that hits right square in the middle of the bit setter

One pretty much has to remove the BitSetter.

We do not have a file specific to the 2x2 — FWIW, I usually just measure a slat, set up a Job at those dimensions, then draw geometry to face off the slat, then use Linear Array to duplicate it with suitable spacing to get them all.

I have a 2x4 sp5.
As an exercise, I mapped the min and max values XY values using mm settings ( because that is the native units) and made a path based on those numbers.

Start up the machine, initialize it and jog to the extents.

Thanks Will,

watched the video, made the measurements, did the Linear Array, followed the set up instructions on the video you attached. Worked like a charm…at least in the design phase.

I’ll give it a run tomorrow.

Hey Jim,
That’s more or less what I’ve been doing/thinking, but being relatively new at this, I wasn’t sure if my thinking was correct. Thanks for your reply.

All good, test without a bit. I used the mcfly to actually cut it.

Between a pocketing pass or facing pass is one recommended over the other ?

The Facing toolpath in Carbide Create Pro has the advantage of moving back-and-forth, being less likely to result in the marks which a pocket toolpath may have.
