Well as embarrassing as it may be

Finally got a coin to look like I was “trying” to get.
After burning up the first coin pocket/socket, took me many more try’s and failures before I got a pocket the I “thought” would hold the coin. Not sure the coins are as percise a diam. as would like because after 6 tries with the coin “twisting around” in the pocket I finally used some hot glue on the sides and it seems to do the trick…at least for the moment.

At any rate, here’s some pics of what I have been able to get so far.

All sucess comes from failure.

Edit:

For round objects I make jigs to hold them. The picture is a little bigger but the same principle. This was for coasters but cutting the slot for a bolt and/or clamp will hold your work steady with worrying about it moving half through a carve. If you look closely I was going to use a bolt and a threaded insert to hold the jig tight but decided to just use a clamp.

The jig will let you repeat if you have multiple coins to machine. Once you set the X, Y and Z you just machine one coin, remove and run the second, third…

As MadHatter suggested you could use superglue and tape but each coin would have to be zeroed and placement is harder with that method. The superglue and tape method work for a single coin but if you make multiples you can go and blow.

Please notice that my jig is anchored with bolts. You could just drive screws through the sides where the squeeze does not happen if you dont have a threaded spoil board.

Buy some 2" wide blue tape and super glue and use that method to hold them down. That’s what I do for making my coins.

You should see my epic fails in trying to make wooden Rubik’s cubes. Lol. There’s no way around it if you want to do something new and unique - you have to fail a whole bunch before you get to succeed.

Good luck!

Which tool did you decide to use for the names on the back side?

I used the MCetcher 120. Not sure if it is better or worse than the MC90, but LOVE IT. While the pics do not show the names on the back very well, they are quite readable and did a great job for what was being asked. I know the 3XXL is not the level machine that the Nomad or 4Pro, etc. are, but did a great job for me.

Now I only have 36 more coins to do!!! :scream:

As for the hold down of the coins, I discovered that the 1 1/8 dia. coins are not 31.75 mm, but actually (when measured with my new digital calipers, 31.66…thus the coin pocket holding problem.

I’m correcting for that now and anticipate a better result.
