Hey there I just recently purchased a shapeoko xxl router and love it so far, I have done some simple project but Im wanting to get into doing some more detailed pieces, I know that v-bits are usually used for engraving but i dont find it does the exact accuracy i want, I guess my question is what bits should i use for doing real fine detail and where can i get them? (Example would be something like a tree vines with lots of detail
V endmills used in a V carving toolpath will afford the best detail, see:
We have a bit about endmill selection at:
and the community has written up/collected a bit more at:
https://wiki.shapeoko.com/index.php/Endmills#Suggested_starter_set
If you’d let us know the specifics of what you wish to work on, say post a file, we might be better able to advise.
The b/w vector version of such should cut well with a V carving (or Advanced V carving if large) toolpath.
are there v bits that arent so big so they can get into the finer detail
Yes, smaller V endmills are available, and they can have more acute V angles which will further increase detailing.
Could you send me a link for those bits?
The one’s I’ve been using are from carbidetoolsource.com
I will have to check those out, theres so many i will have to figure out which ones i need lol
