How “recently”? If that’s any indication as to her take on marriage, she might not need it for that long! ![]()
Thanks for the response Mark. Here’s the remake I came up with. Not sure how you did it but curious to see if we did similar. Thanks again.

Super cool! Great job!
Still one of my favorites!
Much crisper. Looks great.
Awesome. I’m afraid I would have done the same thing. I too like the walnut better.
When I originally saw this project I wondered what it would look like as a stacked glue-up with opening door to revel a surprise. Would the juice be worth the squeeze? Personally if I had to change anything it would be the color of the greenery in front. There are two separate heights or elevations and the color looks the same on each elevation. Of course it looks awesome like it is.
I just noticed the Tolkien initials is set it its own wood. Very cool upgrade from the first one.
It’s been a while since I did an inlay so I decided to do this feather inlay again. Changed it up by enlarging it and doing maple in walnut. It turned out pretty good aside from a few small gaps that I filled with sawdust/glue paste.
Very nice, tickles my fancy. I recently did a W inlay for a friend. I have made inlays in the past before the inlay tool path was available. I think what is the biggest problem is inlays that have a lot of sharp points. The inlay material gets very thin and the grain of the wood tends to break off. You cannot always pick something that has nice gentle curves but if you have a choice pick something without a lot of sharp points.
This will be a wedding gift from a grandfather to his grandson getting married soon.
Yeah, I did more separate base colors for each layer. After I added flowers and shaded some I realized how much it blended everything. I just ran out of steam to fix it.
I’ve been there several times.
It still looks good regardless. Thanks again for sharing the file.
It has been a productive weekend.
Wife wanted a rolling pin wall holder.
We needed a cross for the house and I had seen someone make this on here some place so I generated up the design.
While making the cross inlay I decided I needed a press soooo.
All in one weekend ? Did you sleep ?
Nice work.
I needed a place to put the laptop while using the 5.1 Pro. I saw one online at Tools Today and purchased and down loaded the SVG files. I cut it out last weekend and put it together yesterday, had to wait on hardware.
It works well and can be adjusted for sitting or standing. The stool you see in the photos was the first shop project cut on the CNC.
I work 4x10’s so my weekends are 3 days.
I also installed a laptop holder, however it was the one Will linked a few days ago. Worked out perfectly.
So I saw the video where the fella at Carbide 3D made a bunch of bottle openers. I liked the overall idea and figured I would try to redo it my own way. Threw in a honeycomb grip, a few pocket in pocket in a pocket type of things. Chamfered everything I could. Had a little tearout near the opener insert pocket, but overall, not a bad test run. Will work on a two sided version next. Might make some slight changes to the dimensions as well. This was fun.
Any thoughts or critiques? I am all ears.
