Where plunge begins

What information is used to determine where the mill will plunge into the work to begin the cut (2D work using SVG)? Is this related to the origin of the spline?

I ask because I will be milling down the thickness of plates of C145 copper and am thinking of having the plunge occur outside the work to reduce one aspect of stress on the system and material. Is this a good idea?

Correct, origin. Unfortunately Carbide Create doesn’t afford tools to influence this save for mirroring/rotation on symmetrical objects.

@WillAdams Thanks. I create my own splines so I have the ability to determine origin there.

At least I think it’s origin — thinking on it a bit more, I wonder if it won’t be set by the program in an effort to optimize rapids.
