Which direction should my router move on initialization?

I’m done with my build and now I’m pressing initialization. What is the correct movement my carriage move. ( up/down, left/right, front/back. )

Mine moves down and errors out.

Any suggestions?

it needs to move UP first, then to the right back corner

so either you got the “HDZ” flag wrong in the CM settings screen or you mounted the Z axis plate inverted…

To expand on @fenrus’s answer, the complete sequence is:

  • Z moves up
  • at top of travel, Z homes
  • machine moves in a diagonal towards the back right corner
  • when gantry/carriage reaches the limit of motion along an axis machine continues in straight line
  • machine homes at machine origin at the top right back corner

There’'re a couple of other possibilities for a reversed Z:

  • wiring — sometimes the motors are wrong, sometimes a wiring extension is put together wrong (they should all be straight through)
  • blown stepper driver chip — there’s a failure mode where the motor will only move in one direction
