Will Carbide Create only engrave closed objects?

I took a complicated image and converted it to a vector using a center line trace method. I imported it to Carbide Create and noticed most of the lines were purple and a few were back. I realized the black objects were closed and those are the only objects that are being engraved.

Contour pocket and V carving toolpaths require closed paths.

You can closed paths by using the Join command, but it’s probably easier to fix the source file.

I’m using Illustrator to create the drawing and found a quick fix.
Select All, then:
Object > Path> Outline Stroke

I could see no difference, but all the lines were black when the file was imported.
