It is no wonder so many of the most beautiful pieces of art in the world are made from Cararra marble. It is easy to work and beautiful. I brought a few chunks back with me from those mines and I want to play with it on my mill as I have made some larger flat surfaces. Has anyone done this before? I would use carbide burrs that I have for fiberglass work and set my speeds and plunge rates extremely low. Marble is really just calcium carbonate limestone. It is really easy to work with grinding tools and sand paper.

I have done a lot of design work for marble. I designed this for the grave of Edward Gorey and the guy I work for carved it. It’s in place now. He gets his stone from Alabama. Beautiful stuff. His CNC floods the table with water. I wish I had room for it in my shop.

The bits are really short. Most are only 40mm-50mm, but that is fine with me. Also, they only come with metric shanks. I’ve never seen one with fractional shanks.
Also, you can get bull nose PCD bits and flat end bits as well.

EDIT: It’s also crazy that you can get MCD (monocrystalline diamond) bits for $50 or so.
