Solved! (Many thanks to Brandon Lee.) I ended up removing the X/Y assembly from the X axis carrier plate to find that the four highlighted screws were backed almost all the way out. (Possibly to protect the ballscrew during shipping?) Tightened them down; now there’s zero play. Cheers!
