Hey there, I was using my shapeoko xxl to flatten a table top, and all of a sudden the x axis stepper stopped giving any resistance. I went through the normal jogging procedures and zeroed my machine, it did the first two passes on the table top, and then stopped pulling my router along the gantry. I tried restarting the machine, however this didn’t change anything. When the machine is on, the Z axis and the Y axis cannot be moved by hand, but the x axis basically moves freely. I checked my connections, and there are no burns or anything along the wires, and if I give a command, the motor tries to go, however it no longer moves the router. Just wondering what I need to do about this, the machine was working beautifully yesterday, and earlier today, but now it is out of commission. Do I need to get a new x axis stepper? I bought the machine in January 2019, so I would assume this is still under warranty, but just wondering if there is anything I can do myself to solve this problem?
You guys were definitely correct. Seems that the set screws on the x stepper worked their way out and have gone missing. I’ll need to get some more of those from Carbide 3D. In the meantime I transferred one over from the second y axis and it works perfect.
