Z axis jammed how do I resolve issue

Pro XXL worked last weekend no issues. When I turned it on yesterday the initiation process began a serve chattering effect. Manually move head to check x and y limit switched engaged with the red indicator. Uninstalled Motion and tried to setup as a new machine selecting Shapeoko Pro XXL and Z Plus. Process results in the same Z axis chattering as soon as I hit initialize. How do I unjam the Z axis.

If need be, lubricate:

Move the Z-axis all the way to the bottom by turning the leadscrew, then up to the top, then to the middle.

If that doesn’t work out check in w/ support.

If mechanical issue is ruled out, I would check the wiring connectors to the Z-axis motor. From my experience, this sounds like a poor wiring connection issue. You can easily check the wiring connectors by jogging an axis & gently flexing/fiddling with a connector during the motion. If the machine stutters/stops/grinds, then it’s due to poor contact inside the connector.

I manually move the Z axis to the lower limit, then tried the initialize it again. The process moved the lift to the upper limit but did not engage the upper limit switch. The chattering I hear is that contact occurring multiple ties till I stop it or it times out.

Took a screwdriver and placed the shaft on the and then the x and y limit switches in their normally open condition to confirm the red lights shows the contacts closed. When I attempted the same for the Z limit switch and nothing changed. Checked the Z designated wiring connects and they seem to be seated properly and tight.

Planning to pull out an multimeter and check continuity and power to the Z axis limit switch.

Planning to check in with support on Monday.

This happens to me at least once a month. The culprit is always the conntector…as Joel says. I press it together and it’s ok until it’s not. Never a problem except on initial connections. Some folks put an electrical tie around that connector to securely keep it together. There is some controversy over whether a dialectic grease should be used. I have never used it I have heard people talk about wd40 but that scares me.

WD40 can melt and distort some connectors. So would not recommend using it. The white dielectric can be useful but my experience with block style connectors can cause other issues with age.

I had the same issue after the last update. I went straight to gsender and everything worked as it should. I uninstalled the software and installed an older version, not sure what 1, and didnt seem to help. I ran it for a day with gsender as i was just flattening a saw cut log. went back to CMotion the next day and it was working, kinda. As the day progressed itgot better. still not sure what was the real problem.

The issue was the z axis switch not closing when the contact circuit was completed. Ordered a replacement and once I was able to update as a new machine and run the initialize process everything worked.
