Hi everyone, I have a Shapeoko XXL that I just got today. I have been attempting to carve a 0.5-inch deep square. Every time the machine tries to start a new layer, the z-axis kicks. I’ve lowered my plunge rate to 0.5 which seems to be helping. I am using Rockler’s Dish Carving Router Bit - 1" Dia x 1/2" H x 1/4" Shank.
Please see the video https://youtu.be/xfJwYputEek
Does anyone have any recommendations to fix this?

It appears you have a belt driven Z axis right? From the video, it appears your plunge rate is to high.

I have the plunge rate set to 0.5. I’m unsure if it can go any lower

Are you are saying that you have set the plunge rate to the depth you want your finished carve?
Attached you will see my settings for the bit. I’ve attempted to get the plunge rate lower but I believe 0.5 is the lowest rate that is allowed.
I have seen videos of the bit being used as a plunge router piece. See the following: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHSi_tY1W4A
Do you recommend that I first start by looking at the parallelity of the workpiece?

That suggests that your alignment is out of true.
Do you recommend that I use a different bit to verify that the same problem is occurring for every operation?
