Suddenly my Carbide motion wiIl not measure my Z correctly. I zero at the wasteboard, then bump it up to .75 but it’s actually now sitting at 1.25. I checked and it’s all set to inches. I did try to use another computer this morning for my Motion so I could work in Aspire on the main one and it seems to have messed it up. I can’t figure out how to fix it. Should I just uninstall it and start over? Had no issues at all until this morning when i tried to set up the other laptop. Help!
Which machine do you have? Which Z-axis?
This is usually caused by having a Z-Plus (black motor, leadscrew, metal post for stop at bottom), but configuring for an HDZ (black and silver motor, ball-screw w/ coupler, captive bearing at bottom).
Reconfigure for the correct axis:
I had to go back to my order to verify which one I have. it’s the Shapoko 3 XL with Z Plus. That’s what I put in to set up the other laptop but it was making a funny noise (it’s oooold) so I just switched back to the one I’ve been using. But apparently it wasn’t right and now it’s all messed up. I definitely have the black motor and the metal post at the bottom.
If the machine does not move smoothly, lubricate the linear rails/blocks:
It moves just fine. thats not my problem. The problem is that when i zero’d out the Z to the wasteboard then took it up to .75 so it won’t cut the wasteboard on my project, it’s way above the board so i measured it and it’s sitting at 1.5 inches, not the .75 inches carbide motion says it is at. why would the measurements be off like that?
Which controller does your machine have?
Does it have DIP switches? If so, what are they configured for?
Please send us photos of your machine, overall, detail of Z-axis, and of your controller (remove the cover and send us a clear, well-lit edge-to-edge, in-focus picture).
Which version of Carbide Motion are you using?
