Help - cutting too deep

I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I am trying to do some v-carve outlines on the top of a box I made and the bits keep burying through the top, going way to deep. Here are my settings.

Thanks for any help.

Where are you setting zero?

How are you setting zero?

For this one, I moved the bit to the center of the project that I had measured out and set Z with paper and reset all axis to zero.

I set the zero with the bit I was wanting to use, told it to run project. It went to bitsetter and did verification, started spindle. moved to project and buried itself in the project.

I then ran same thing with the 60 v, it not only repeated, but then did not seem to retract high enough and I got some cutting when it should have been retracted above project.

My recommendation would be to update to the new beta:

https://carbide3d.com/carbidemotion/beta

If you still have difficulty with the beta, please upload the .c2d file and let us know step-by-step:

  • what you did
  • what you expected
  • what actually happened

and post a photo showing your machine at the origin or a specified offset from that position.

Thank you again Will.

I read the blog post and believe I am following all workflow steps correctly, so I downloaded the Beta to try. Appreciate the help. Will report back.

Installed the beta and it ran as it was expected. Thank you!!!

Not sure if it is coincidence, but my machine seems to be “running” faster to the desired locations and initialize motions were also much faster.

Thank you again Will! I have had to make the same box top 6 times, so I am very grateful

Update - Ran three more v-carve jobs and the Beta version seems to have fixed my issue. Thank you again.
