On the C3D site, the cutters do not indicate whether they are UP or DOWNCUT. I am looking for other, more reasonably priced (read CHEAP) bits on Amazon to try out, and want to make sure I get the right thing.
TIA!

#201 - Upcut
#251 - Downcut
The 251 specifically says downcut. I think if it doesn’t say, people just assume upcut.
thank you!!! I am wondering, have you heard of the combination UP/DOWN cut bits? I just picked one up to play with.

The #251 is down cut. The #201 is up cut and is a 3 cutter end mill. The #251 has 2 cutters as well as the #205 up cut but. I am not fond of the #201. I use Whiteside up and down cut bits as #205 and #251 in cc instead of making a custom tool. The Whiteside bits are close enough to #205 and #251.
These are known as “compression” tools.

They work well, but one has to get the cut deep enough to engage the upper part of the cutting flutes which has downcut cutting geometry.
