201 Endmill Feedrate

How fast do you run your 201 Endmill at. I have been using the recommended speed on CC. Just seeing what people are running it at. Thank you

What material are you cutting?

I use the recommended F&S but during cutting I generally increase feed rate to 150% and if changing tool I set back to 100% and look and listen to tool before increasing. You want to make sure you are getting chips and not fine saw dust.

Busby is not the most common name are you related to my friend Donnie Busby in Baton Rouge LA? Just curious.

I am going to be cutting red oak. Just contour cutting. Put was also trying to see for pocket on pine and oak.

Nope don’t know who that is.

I try to stick to the 0.001" to 0.002" chipload range for a 1/4" tool in hardwood as a starting point, then use feedrate override during a cut to push it further if the machine is willing to do it.
So on a 3-flute like the #201 and assuming you run your router at say 18.000 RPM, that translates to a feedrate range of 54 to 108ipm.
However, feedrate is only one part of the story, and depth of cut will matter just as much, especially on profile/slotting cuts where chip evacuation is poor (and especially when using a 3-flute)
In oak I like to run at the upper end of the chipload range but with a small depth per pass (~0.05" )
