Hello,
I like to think I’m a seasoned CC PRO user and CNC Machinist.
My question is this: CC PRO estimates the roughing & finishing cut times. My experience is whatever CC PRO says, double it.
I have been working this way for two years now, and for all intents and purposes it keeps me close to a realistic cut time.
My question is, why is this?
I’m new here, so I don’t know if this will even get read let alone answered, but I figured I put it out there.
Love this software, it does everything I need it to do effortlessly now.

I think the calculation of cutting is just that. I do not think they can calculate all the other times like retracts and rapid movements that are not actually cutting in the material.
So for overall time to complete a job they (c3d) has always been off and the estimated time in CC is never even close to what CM estimates and CM is always wrong as well. Frankly when I start a job in CM it gives me a rough guide as to how long the job will run.
They most certainly could calculate rapids, engages, plunges, retracts. They would have to use a default speed for rapid, since that is set on your machine and CC has no idea. But a reasonable estimate would get you close. 200 ipm??
I created a test with 100 10" lines at 1 IPM (should be around 1000 minutes of cut time)
This path shows 1006 minutes
I increase the retract to 10", and it still shows 1006 minutes
I alternate (mirror) every other line, and it shows 1001 minutes
Not sure where the 5 minutes went, since the cut time should be the same.??
I figured they did not consider “other” 3D time, but it sure would be nice if they would. @Tod1d I find your analysis simple, direct, and to the point. I agree, the default rapid speed assumption would have to be made, but short of that, in my opinion, you are correct.
