I have been playing with 3D reliefs and I am hunting for the correct Z height to use versus the XY dimensions. I find myself using to little Z height, then jump the fence to too much.
So ignoring the reality if you can cut it, do any of you artist types have any words of wisdom ?
Rules of thumb ?
I am able to scale x, y, and z independently of each other in Aspire. The limiting factor is the substrate thickness. I try to set z at about .5 inch deep on what a typical carving size would be…say 8x10 or so. If I am using something from EasyCreate of SculptOK I go as much depth as possible in the application (short of being stupid deep) and scale it down. Say 2mm minimum to up to 20mm max. Not completely sure if that’s what your asking…but I do that with good results.
Thank you, I think I get it. I just cut a image 8 x 11 to 1/4 deep and that did not “Stand out” like I thought. Your example has an aspect ratio around 18:1 (xy:z) values, mine was around 30:1
My daughter talks of the rule of 3 where you create a 3 x 3 grid on the subject for balance reasons.
Still working that through the brain.
So I assumed there was a similar concept for relief heights.
