3M new RO Sander

Has anyone bought one of these new 3m RO sanders.

I have seen a lot of good reviews the drawback is it is around $400.00 plus the sand paper.

Additionally has anyone use the newer 3m Sandpaper. It is supposed to be good at sanding and very good at dust removal.

It is called Xtract Cubitron II

No but it looks remarkably similar to the Mirka Deros I got (same price range), and the sandpaper discs look identical in nature to Mirka’s Abranet discs.
If it performs similarly, it’s top of the class (as expected when shelling out $400+ for a sander…)

Yes I agree that the $400.00 price tag it should do the sanding for you. The reviews I have seen say it sands beautifully, leaves your hand NOT tingling and is good at dust extraction. I have been the Mirka over years and I use their sand paper. The Mirka sand paper works and lasts a long time and because you dont have to line up the holes I think you get better dust extraction.

The 3M sander is new and if I was to buy one I would not buy it right now. I like them to work out the bugs on new models before I shell out that much money. I do a lot of sanding and use a corded Dewalt 5" random orbit sander with the Mirka paper mostly. It does a good job but on long sanding sessions my hand tingles. The dust extraction is pretty good. I also have a Dewalt 20V sander and that is a piece of garbage. I thought having the cordless model it would work well. The problem is I think the RPM is lower and the speed is lower and has less dust extraction. The 20V Dewalt collects dust and not in a good way. It just sits starring at me reminding me of a bad tool purchase. I have a lot of Dewalt 20v tools and they work well but the sander and the 6.5 inch circular are both battery hogs. I usually pull out my Ridgid 7.25" corded circular saw to cut most things. I had a Bosch 7.25" circular saw that in use it was good but things kept falling off. I also have a Skil 7.25" worm drive saw that collects dust because it is heavy and awkward to hold. The regrets of buying some tools hurts me right in the pocket book.

I bought one but haven’t had a chance to use it yet.

When I saw the original post on StumpyNubs woodworking channel I was interested, but I wanted to understand how it compared to the festool.

About 2-3 months later 731 woodworks did a compare between it and the festool. That’s what gave me the confidence to get the 3m.

What’s interesting to me though is that Full Steam Designs got a Mirka knockoff that loooks just like the 3m x tract. He hasn’t done an in-depth review. His a Shapeoko guy but I’m not sure of what his username is on this forum so I can’t tag him. Hopefully @WillAdams knows

Is this Mirka Deros clone sander worth $170? - YouTube

FYI - It was too late for me to buy the knockoff version

Let’s try summoning him @ChrisPowell

Like @Julien said it looks like a Mirka/Airvantage knockoff/clone to me. I have owned an Airvantage 5" ROS and 3x4 sheet sander for a couple years, and they are fabulous, they weren’t cheap but they work great. I did manage to find a “refurbished” 5" ROS for about $290 on eBay I think. It looked as if it was brand new.
