3XXL Z-Height Troubleshoot

Hi, having an issue with my 3XXL. From everything I’m seeing it’s a Z-plus (large backplate, smaller screw, top mount motor) and I’m setting it up as such. However, the Z is moving further than it should. When I jog 0.1" it jogs roughly 3/16". Any ideas?

Post a picture!

One tell tale, the Z Plus has a post at the bottom of the screw with a hole in it.

The HDZ has a bearing at the bottom.

Do your configuration again. Make sure you pick Z-Plus and not HDZ. The HDZ gets more steps per MM than a Z-Plus. If you picked the HDZ by mistake the Z will move further than you intend.

Yeah I for sure picked Z+ and not HDZ. And I for sure have a Z+. I’ve done the config probably 10 times by now, no change. Still having the issue

Does your controller have DIP switches?

If so, are they set to 4x Micro-stepping?

If so, power down and switch to 8x.

I’d also suggest removing the bushing and mounting the CCR as low as is possible to match the instructions.

Not seeing any DIP switches, but also don’t know too much about electronics

. Here’s a photo

No, that would be for an older controller, and yours is newer.

If the machine won’t move correctly with the correct wiring and configuration, then there would seem to be something wrong with the controller — check in w/ the folks at support.

I recently started having this same issue. I also have the 3XXL with z-plus. I cave’t been able to find the cause, hopefully someone else will have the answer.

If the linear rails and blocks are well-lubricated, and the wiring and connectors are all in good condition and secure and if nothing is mechanically interfering with it, then the remaining possibility is a problem with the spring or loose or worn lead nut:
