Our makerspace recently acquired a Shapeoko 4XL and we’re having some issues with the x-axis.
When the x-axis is jogging, it will sometimes skip a few steps and throw off our zero. It seems to happen most commonly during the z-axis zeroing process where the carriage moves to the z-probe and back.
I’ve done some searching and double-checked the grub screws on the x-axis pulley, the wiring, and the belt tension. It just seems like the motor is skipping when doing these fast jog moves.
In addition to the pulley set screws, belt tension, wiring/connectors, the last thing to check is the adjustment of the eccentric nuts/V wheels — if all of that checks out, verify that the Y-axis rails are level and parallel and plumb and that the gantry is square to the rails and plumb and that the carriage is level and plumb.
Ok, sounds good. Currently on my to-do list is squaring the gantry because it’s currently not square. Hopefully squaring things up will improve things. I will also double-check the eccentric nuts. Thanks
