5.1 Assembly Thoughts

Before I start, I want to say I’ve been very impressed with the customer service thusfar. That being said I ordered the 5 pro based on that reputation – not being so much an assembler of CNCs…more an old school woodworker and graphic designer wanting to learn CNC in retirement. The videos make putting the 5 pro together look pretty simple…1 hour or so I think it says in the video. It’s turning out I’m a good bit slower.

As soon as I received mine a few weeks ago, I had a mishap and broke my foot. So I’m just now getting around to assembly and have had a few issues I’m sure the good folks at C/S can help with but are kind of frustrating. Mainly two end caps on the larger base rails and one hairline crack on another plastic piece. Beyond that, two screws missing from the 96 to secure the wasteboard aluminum frame to the base rails and now 2 of the smaller screws to secure the wiring harnesses. No biggie as I’m sure I’ll get the replacements quickly but a little surprised so many defects happening so quickly.

The bigger issue is that the well produced assembly video doesn’t reflect the actual experience with the wiring. What I received doesn’t look anything like the official video or any of the myriad I’ve watched on YouTube - where it appears many people struggle with the process. Kevin and Winston make it look REALLY simple in the video. Some steps are but others aren’t so much.

The wiring I received is all encased in braiding (pics attached) that I don’t see on any of the videos and it, frankly, has me pretty confused right now. I just don’t see how the wiring in that braiding would even fit in the wiring holder that affixes to the back rail. I’m afraid, I’m going to run out of assembly time before I can even use any of the 30 minute sessions in the 60 days. I might be missing something and just not understanding it.

I have an email in and hoping I can get one live session at the CNC for guidance. If not, I’d be delighted to drive somewhere in the Midwest (I’m in Central Illinois) to see one assembled fully.

Any advice to a novice is appreciated!

Edit: I did have the loom, just have not looked at it in a year!!

The loom provided was not on my 5 Pro I put together a year ago. C3D continues to improve their products and this would be an upgrade to mine. If you have trouble fitting the Y2 (left Y axis looking from the front of the machine) wire with the loom on it then just remove it and run thru the provided wire chase.

The harness really only goes together one way, if you need some more help I can provide some photos later today when I return to the machine. Send me a message and I’ll get back with you.
